Character Building and water quality

Postby Jubal » Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:52 pm

Right, I'm trying to decide how to develop my character. I've got a few basic skills but haven't spent many skill points on the numerical skills yet. So the questions are...

- How useful are boatbuilding and wheelmaking? They both look pretty cool, but there are more basic skills such as Plant Lore that I haven't got yet. Boat building particularly appeals as it'd allow me to explore and try and find trading posts and whatnot, though I'm a fair way from any water.
- What skills do I need to be able to farm?
- How useful is being able to work leather?

The other question is what quality counts as "good" for various things. I noticed that while the quality of most of my stuff is 10, my well-water is a 20. Is it out of 100, or...?

not that much as some others you seem you dont have
- What skills do I need to be able to farm?

plant lore -> farming
but you also need some exploration to see the www you need to begin with farming [ http://havenandhearth.wikia.com/wiki/Www ]
- How useful is being able to work leather?

if you dont have a backpack yet - VERY VERY VERY useful (adds 8 inventory-slots. +you can make some basic armory)

Boats are awesome. The ability to travel is great. However, depending on how hard a time you're having with food, you may want to delve into Plant Lore and foraging and such first. Wheelmaking is for carts and wagons, which are more useful when you're more established.

This should help you know what you need to get for prereqs.

Note that for farming you'll also need some Exploration (10+, more never hurts) and the Perception attribute to find Wild Windsown Weeds to get seeds from. That, or beg/steal/trade for seeds.

Leather stuff is great. You should definitely pick it up and work on a backpack (inventory space) and armor (being able to take a few hits from boars).

There's pretty much no cap on quality. So what's 'good' is entirely in relation to what you've already got.
