Whenever I enter a cave, even with a lit torch in hand I cannot see anything. I do not know what is up with the game it seems like a torch should be able to light up the area around you in a cave.

Have you lit the torch? It won't provide illumination if it's not lit. Sounds silly, I know, but just checking. It's sometimes the simplest things that get you. :)

do you see the light around the entrance to the cave or is it 100% black? i had some issue with that a long time ago, updating my video drivers fixed it.
