Does clay grow back?

I started off near a smallish sized mudflat, and have been using the clay that I dug there for some pretty fast LP's (at least, relative to anything else that I can do yet). Recently, I've noticed that the clay is getting harder and harder to find, to the point that I don't think I'll be able to get much more out of it. Will that area ever become usable for clay harvesting again, or has mine become a cautionary tale against wanton over-harvesting?

It regenerates slooooowly. You can get 20-30 clay a day without depleting the clay spot.
