In a fragmentation grenade.
Perhaps in the new DF too, when you kill a creature made out of metal.
Never seen metal chunks yet in H&H though.
Metal ores can be mined out in mines, turned into bars at a smelter, which can be made into nuggets at a alloying crucible, or minted into coins at a coinpress.
I suppose coins would be most effective in a frag grenade.
