Indecisive Newb

Postby Forefall » Wed Jun 23, 2010 11:14 am

Just started today, can't figure out which direction I want to go... read the guides and such. A great help, but I'm still undecided on what path I should take. I usually take a jack of all trades approach to games similar to this... is that viable here?

Here's my progress thus far:

First goal is a steady food supply, so hunting first, so you can pick up rabbits for food. then lumberjack, unlocks the tech tree to carpentry (building houses) and eventually boat building, a boat is pretty much a necessity for fishing i think

once you have food taken care of i would pump exploration to lvl 10 or so, then you can start seeing the wild windsown weeds (WWW) which you can collect and put on a drying rack to get random crops and get out of the pre-agricultural caveman stage. farming rocks.

other good skills to pick up early (in no particular order) are leather working, stone working, farming, will to power, hearth magic, cloth making, archery, and the first big goal should be yeomanry which will allow you to get up a claim and build a palisade, which are decent protections from thieves/raiders/ornery forest critters. good luck

I suggest you pick up hunting, foraging and lumberjacking. Those are the main skills for basic survival and pretty much all you need to get some nice LP coming. Chop trees (or use already chopped logs) and make them into wood blocks. Afterwards turn the blocks into cutlery or wooden vases and you should get enough LP for a long while.*

*Each cutlery/vase object gives around 85 LP. Meaning you get 85 per wood block so assuming you fill your inventory, you'd be making over 650 LP per inventory in no longer than 5 minutes.

When you find a nice place to stay (I suggest you read the wikia about this subject), you can start focusing on building your house, your farm and later on your claim. Make yourself a nice sling (some high dexterity helps) and start hunting foxes (again, read the wikia for more info) and simply go over with your life, getting more skills and crafting whatever you need for survival. Joining a village helps as well.
