Clay?

Postby Punkk » Wed Jun 23, 2010 10:28 pm

It used to be so easy to get clay before; however now after I dig the first one I can't seem to be able to get any more (not only from that spot, but from any other spot). The few I have were all randomly dug when I was close to the water, and I'm not close enough to go there each 5 minutes for a piece of Ball Clay.

So, apart from Gray Clay and Cave Clay (which appear as a forageable product, as I've read), how the #@% do you get clay without having to dig a week to get enough for a Kiln?

Harvesting clay slightly reduces the area's clay quality, which is 10 by default. Below 10, the area can yield no more clay until it replenishes. The world is scattered with clay deposits, which span a small but significant area, containing q11+ clay (each deposit has a peak which yields the highest quality). Even these deposits are diminished by harvesting, though very slowly (-1 quality for every 5-10).

So I'd have to find a q11 clay spot just to dig 5-10 clay? That blows.

most spots are way above q11 though, and the higher the peak q, the larger the area it covers (with q descending as you get further from the peak spot)

I see. Well I guess I'll pack my boat with a few crates, food and sail off somewhere to get some clay.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Clay spots are pretty common actually. You shouldn't need food to find them. A lot of times you'll see places where other players have built kilns seemingly in the middle of nowhere. That is usually a good sign that there is clay nearby.

Also: random chairs in the middle of nowhere can be a signpost to higher clay/soil...

Be aware that if you found this spot and it has something like that, some people might consider it their property, so be careful...

Yesterday I discovered that the Clay spot I had found was infact not only the spot that the Smith of World's End used to make new Kilns/Bricks for the Smithery and had asked everyone not to touch for that reason (Takes nearly a day or two for a Clay spot to reach its best if Depleted to 10) but the path I took was just a GIANT Circle and lead back to the City and the clay deposit was only JUST across the river from the Mines, If I had gone only one more minimap more south I would have found the city and gotten just as lost as I felt...
