Lakes and fish.

Postby Orpheus » Fri Jun 25, 2010 11:35 pm

I have a quick question about fishing on lakes. I know the variety of fish changes between shallow water and deep water, but I'm also wondering, does the variety change if you fish in different locations of the SAME lake? Say, if on the south shore I found Pike, is it probable that I will also find Pike on the northern shore? So for example, if a lake has given me mostly Pike, does that mean the chances of finding Plaice are close to zero?

It's not location as much as phase of the moon, bait and quality of your equipment. I have heard that two players experimented with using identical equipment at different locations (although both shallow or both deep water) and simultaneous times and found that they had identical catches, except for the failed throws.

If you want plaice instead of pike try using lower q equipment. The difference may be a q27 hook from a bear bone as opposed to a q10 hook from a rabbit bone. Plaice is noob food and is readily caught with crummy equipment. Also try checking the wiki for details of when you can get what. It has a page there that makes some suggestions of what phase of the moon works for what type of fish.

I stockpile fish that I need. If I am using sturgeon as my primary source of str and one night I am catching lots of sturgeon I don't stop when I have enough for that day. I try to catch enough to last me until the moon is back in the same phase again.

Well to be honest I have been using q10 stuff all along and still no Plaice.
I do know about the moonphases, I was just worried about fishing locations on the same lake. If it doesn't affect the variety, then I won't have to go around looking for new places to fish.

Thanks for the help!

Different locations will give different q of fish, so are worth looking for. One end of the lake may produce q10 and the other a range up to q17 for example, which can make it worth fishing over on the good side.

You fish in the same spot if it's pike and you are in shadows. You just have to wait until a full moon to get the plaice.

I've caught nothing but perch for as long as I can remember, using a mix of leeches intestines and worms for bait. I can only assume that quality is the biggest factor in getting different fish, since I keep my pole line and hooks as high as possible.

SlamBliss asked so many times in IRC it's not funny, the response he got was:
(23:13) <loftar> I see you grossly underestimate the strangeness and weirdness of fishing. :)
