Obtaining clay

So I've been going round the river banks digging for clay and I found one piece on my first dig. But then no more would appear anywhere along the riverbank.

What gives?

If you get 1 clay does it render the rest of the riverbank dry? how far do I need to move before more will be available?

Been trying for a while now because I need 25 to make a cauldron, it's pretty frustrating when boars keep knocking me out :/

When there's no clay "node" around, at best you'll get one piece of clay for every dozen tiles. You'll know you've found a clay node nearby when you can continually pick pieces of clay, usually of a quality higher than 10. Once you find such a location, you can keep searching every few tiles until you find the peak quality of the clay. Do note that as you extract more clay, the quality will slowly decrease until it's 10 again, and eventually you won't be able to continually get clay from that area.

Thanks for the advice. I was just sailing along and randomly found a kiln by the riverbank so I got out and searched the shore for clay, it was laden with q22 stuff

I did what you said and searched a couple tiles either side but 22 was the peak.

Anyway I finally got enough to build my first cauldron so Tea here I come!
