When you chop down a tree, how long do the logs remain?

Postby footwo » Sun Jun 27, 2010 10:04 pm

So I've been chopping trees and hauling the logs back to my camp to use for building stuff. I just dumps the logs near my cabin for future use but I got worried that they might decay after a while so I shouldn't stock too many.

Does anyone know how long it takes them after you drop them to the ground for decay to set in? Or do they remain forever?

Logs are game objects rather than inventory items, even though they have absolutely no bounding boxes (they won't block your path). They don't decay, so chopped logs, just like stumps, will stay until removed.

They actually do cause you to disconnect from a cart if run over (or used to, haven't tried recently), sort of like beds can be walked over by the owner of the claim, but if unclaimed or encountered by anybody else (even with full rights on the property) they will be impassible.

Does the same apply to liftable animal corpses such as fox/bears?

I've never had that happen.
