How do I set up trading teleport things?

Postby Spockticus » Wed Jun 30, 2010 2:15 am

Hey, I've been playing for a while, and the members of my settlement and myself are really needing things like metal and wool.

We've got plenty to barter with, but how do I set up those crossroads between villages so that I can teleport elsewhere to trade?

Do I need Lawspeaking and Village status?

Yep, you need to be the Lawspeaker of a village to be able to construct crossroads, then you have to acquire the sign from the crossroads of another village and attach it to your crossroads. Then you'll be able to travel to their crossroads, assuming you can pay the travel weariness "cost" to travel (the further away it is, the higher the cost).

Do I need any other skills besides Lawspeaking?

And could you explain "acquire the sign the crossroads of another village and attach it to your crossroads" a bit more, please?

Although I've never done so myself, I believe you need to approach the signpost at their village (i.e. you need to physically travel there first) and rightclick to collect a sign from it. You then apply the sign to your crossroads structure, which will give it the new waypoint.

The lawspeaker (or chieftain) can only collect signposts from his own village. To get a signpost of another village, you have to contact their lawspeaker or chieftain and have them trade you a sign. Then you can attach it to your own.

How would I trade it with them? Would I need to go to them physically and have them drop it?

Also, what's the difference between a lawspeaker and a cheiftan?

Yes you would need to go there physically the first time.

Lawspeaker has priority over a chieftain, Lawspeaker can remove the chieftain or decide on a new one, they are the 'top' of the chain. They are also the only ones who can revoke claims (pretty sure, can I get confirmation that chieftain can't?).

Chieftain can do two things that Lawspeakers can't:
Rouse The Rabble - Skill that gives a stamina-related buff only usable on common villagers, only within village claim
Hirdsmen - The ability to name , summon, and dissolve the hird.

On crossroads:
Anyone (not just villagers, ANYONE) can use any crossroad, it doesn't count as trespassing and no special skill is needed to use (interact) with one. That is you could simply walk up to Constantinople crossroad no matter what village you are in and use it to warp wherever you wish to from there.

Lawspeakers/Chieftains of villages have certain rights others don't:
Ability to obtain a sign from a crossroad (right click -> Connect)
Ability to place a sign on a crossroad (left click sign, right click crossroad -> Connect) ** Further clarification on a few matters further down
Ability to 'Destroy' a sign (next to Travel will appear a 'Destroy' button)

** - Signs are not two ways. If you want someone to be able to travel TO you, you give them one of YOUR signs. If you want to travel TO someone else, you get one of THEIR signs.

A crossroad has a limit of 5 signs.

There is another method, that can get you access to a village that you want to trade with, without needing crossroads, or a village.
The village you want to trade with will need to build a charterstone. THen, they can temporarily swear you into village, and you can 'adopt' their charterstone, by rightclicking it.
Once you have adopted it, they can exile you from the village, and you will keep the travel option to their charterstone in your adventure menu.
You can only adopt 1 charterstone though.
