Kiln/Oven/Crucible Quality?

Postby Kaze967 » Thu Jul 01, 2010 1:33 am

Is there a way to know what the quality of an already built kiln/oven/crucible?
If i made a kiln of purely 30 clay, would it be a q30 kiln or does one of my stats somehow affects the construction quality?

Anything under Build is unaffected by stats/skills. (from what I know of)

q30 clay makes q30 kiln

for one where you don't know the material, put a q10 block in and fire it with a q10 block, kiln = (charcoal Q * 4) - 30

I have been running this equation through my head for half an hour now and it does not make any sense. Can anyone explain it with any more sense? (Or tell me what QL a kiln is if I used a QL 10 clay lump, QL 10 branches, and got a QL 13 brick?)

13*4 - 30 = 22

here is why:

material put in counts for 2, fuel used as 1 and the building itself as 1, so using q 10 material that you are burning and q 10 fuel we get this:

10 + 10 + 10 + ? = 13(in your example of having q22 building)

13 is the average q of it all, so do it x 4 to get the total quality points then remove 30 for the material and fuel used(which is 10 for easy testing) and you end up with 13 x 4 = 52 - 30 = 22

since the average of each part is 13 and you know the amount for 3 out of 4 things it means any q point above it is part of the unknown 4th thing.
this is accurate enough but not 100% because the other thing might also have been up to 3 points higher, here is why:

10 + 10 + 10 + 25 = 13.75 , rounded down = 13 , but its accurate enough.

for a smelter and crucible only the fuel and building matter so if you want to know the building in that case use q 10 fuel, then its:
(assuming the building is q 22)

10 + ? = 16 , 16 x 2 = 32(total q of all the materials used, not the average) - 10(for the fuel) = 22, means the building is q 22, or possible 23 because then the average would be 16.5, and again thats rounded down.

please let me know if i need to explain anything more, or if you have more questions. i dont just trow a formula at you and assume you will know what i mean:P

--- Alternative. "How to" from a math point of view.
Base Formule:
QBrickOut = (QClayIn*2 + QKiln + QFuel) / QualetyItemCount

Qk (Kiln) = ?
Qi (Object-In) = 10
Qf (Fuel) = 10, assuming same Q for all fuel items needed to burn the brick.
Qo (Object-Out) = 13
Iq (QualetyItemCount) = 4, -> (QClayIn + QClayIn + QKiln + QFuel)

Qo = (Qi2 + Qf + Qk) / Iq ... base formule.
0 = (Qo * Iq) - (Qi2 + Qf) - Qk ... move Qo to other side. (+ showing Qk prep for its move)
Qk = (Qo * Iq) - (Qi2 + Qf) ... final form for QKiln.
-> "kiln = (charcoal Q * 4) - 30"
-> "22 = 13*4 - 30"
---

Anyway.
Will a object like a Kiln be effected by the Ql of the materials that are used to repair it. (Could test, and will, but asking is ... faster.)

in short to your last question, no

oh and your math is good but it is very hostile and intimidating to those who aren't good at math. i can understand it easily but others might go "woah!" , and have it go downhill from there.

keep that in mind next time you post something thats clear and simple to you.

I know. (I actually such at math.)
What made it "easy" was by actually writing the math process down myself, based on the data/description in you message.
