Decent PER + Marksmanship?

Postby Azkanan » Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:10 am

What's a decent PER and Marksmanship for a sling? I saw one guy step out the forest and whip a sling at me for hefty damage in under a couple of seconds.

I had Q37 Plant Fibre lined up to make a sling, but a damned thief stole them off CLAIMED land, now I only have one left... It levelled out my nettles and taproot to a Q11 Sling.

I need 7500 LP for ranging, but also need to work up my skills for a better sling... nyeh...

Marskmanship = 2x Sling Quality
Perception = Enough to try and max your damage.

Minimum damage formula = (0.5 ( PER/AGI) * MAX-DAMAGE)
Your perception, enemy's AGI.

Base damage is 60 for a sling.
Quality scales regularly: base * sqrt(q/10)

Assuming you can hunt bears and with decent survival to get at least a q100 sling...
Max damage: 189
Max Marksmanship you can get a bonus at: 200

There's really no point in going past 150 Marksmanship for a while if you only want to use a sling. You'll want to use a Bow/Ranger's Bow if you're hunting anthing above animals (that is, hunting humans).

Keep in mind that even a q80 Ranger's Bow (would be pretty friggin' tough to make) wouldn't be able to do much to someone in full q80 bronze armor.
(q80 Ranger's Bow is 848 damage, adding q150 Bone Arrows is another 77 damage)

If you're intent is safety or hunting of other players you should probably roll something other than marksmanship unless you got melee people to back you up :)

If you want to raise your sling Q you have a few options:
1)Something worth selling, or can get to nople and pump out bricks? Trade for a nice quality sling.
2)Want to continue raising the quality to continually use slings? Keep making hemp and raising the string Q :P
3)Want some fast way to do it? Kill a bear, dry hide, hide straps.
3)Near a high quality soil spot? Grab nettle/taproot until you have 5, make sling.

You'll need some survival either way so the bear one is probably the fastest.

Good call! I'm not one for murder unless somebody really pisses me off, but thievery won't do that. This kid is some newbie harvesting off me and my very-nearby friends' junk, and I nearly got killed the other night by two guys (as i mentioned) who were looking for the thief and thought me her.

She seems to be a bit of a problem, so I believe a little KO will scare her off. Continuation calls for swords.

But, yeah, nice response. Insightful. What does the sqrt stand for, though?

Lastly, "Marksmanship = 2x Sling Quality"... That would mean that the Marksmanship skill is equal to Sling Q *2, so what would be the point of upgrading the Marksmanship? Or, does the Sling quality get added to the current Marksmanship, as an extra?

Regards,
Azkanan.

KOing you will leave scents. You'll need Rage to KO them.

sqrt = square root

Slings have an Intrinsic Effective Marksmanship of 2x. So a sling that's q50 will be hardcap your Aiming speed at '100 Marksmanship'.

Whichever is lower, perhaps you should read over this thread, it'd probably help more: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4765
