Fishing doesn't work

I put the string, hook, and different types of lures onto the fishing pole by clicking them and right clicking on the pole but i still cant catch fish. I found a spot in the water where fish are jumping but when I click the fishing icon and then right click the water when the cursor is a hook it doesn't do anything. I've tried using worms, rock lobsters, and the chicken feather one. Nothing seems to work and im almost half way through very hungry. I remember when it used to tell me that i have to have a complete fishing pole to fish but it doesn't say that anymore even when i take all the stuff off.

Whats going on?

it doesn't do anything (and the hook cursor disappears), or you don't catch anything?

The hook cursor disappears and there are no character animations. There are also no messages on the screen or in the message box. I also don't see any hour glass type things anywhere.

And you what? Right click on the water I'm guessing?

Try left.

If I left click it tells me I can't go into deep water without swimming.

are you standing in the shallows? it's a lot easier in a boat, but you have to place the hook in the first deep tile in a river or a shallow spot in a lake

It's a river and i've tried standing on the dirt and in the shallows and right clicking the shallow and deep water all over the place.

ohhhhhhhhh I GOT IT !!!!!! I had to go on land and then left click the hook on the edge of the water and he walked in and started fishing. Thanks for your help guys
