Where am i in "The Grid" ?

So, i want to know where i am in the grid so i can figure where the closest town is to me so i can trade with them as there is stuff i cannot find / access. And, if i go on a 20min odd boatride to the closest town, is there some sort of program i can use to help me remember the route back or do u have to remember it?

You need to either learn the route, or learn cartography. There was an automapping client but it seems to have been taken down now, and many considered it cheating anyways. Alternatively, you can use alt+prntscrn to take screenshots (paste into an image program and save them afterwards) every so often for landmarks.

Unfortunately, as there is no actual coordinate system (not one we can use anyways) everything is relative. To figure out where you are, you'll need to find somebody or something which knows it's location or you know the location of.

Ok, so i have cartography. How long does 1 parchment last for?

if you completed the 4*4 map you can rightclick it on another archment and make an even bigger one (that you complete by more completed 4*4maps)

Wrong. 5x5 in-game minimaps. Note that this is different from the minimap on your GUI because it's a bit bigger than in-game cartography minimaps.

Not sure where you get your information from ... but it sound like You are taking about a Regional map instead of a Local map.

The wiki's wrong in this case. Local maps are definitely a 5x5 grid of minimaps; a quick test of using cartography in my local area confirmed as much.

Trusting your judgement (and going by my own memory also, though I haven't used cartography in several months), I've updated the wiki page to reflect this, although I can't edit the png file that still states 4x4.
