Smelting probability.

Postby Orpheus » Sun Jul 11, 2010 10:57 am

I understand it's based mainly on your Industry Personal Belief. Does the kind of ore also matter? As in, will Tin Ore have a higher probability than Gold?

One more question: Anyone has an idea on the success % at Half Industry and Max Industry?

I think the rates must depend on ore type, for sure. My full Industry alt barely ever gets more than 4 Iron out of a full smelter of 24 Ores, yet my full Nature was getting the same rates from a Tin mine a few weeks ago.

Well, at half industry I got 1 bar from 25 Tin Ores. ;_;

It is based on ore type, but I'm not sure how much variance there is between the non-precious metals. We've got all three here, and I've mined them all plenty, and I don't see any difference that can't be explained comfortably by sheer luck. However silver and gold will very rarely ever produce metal, and do so as nuggets rather than bars.

smelt rate is determined by the type of metal (common metals all have the same rate i think) and the industry slider of the character that mined it. who loads the smelter and lights it doesn't matter.

Anyone happens to have an estimate on the actual probability, in percentage if possible? So far with middle Industry I have gotten from Tin Copper: 1/25, 2/25, 3/25, 1/25. In average 7% success rate.

As far as I know, neutral Nature/Industry gives a 10% chance for common metals, -2% for every point of nature, +2% for every point of industry. If you're going to do extensive testing, be sure to have a large sample size.

Ah, thanks!
That makes a lot of sense. So full nature would mean a 0% success rate, which can be proven easily. If it increases linearly it would make sense for full industry to be 20%.

I thought it's 10% at neutral, half at full nature and double at full industry. I think silver had a 3.33% chance for a nugget, and gold 2.5%, but don't quote me on that.
