I can't cook anything.

I got it to work once, but now it keeps saying I need a fire. I can be close to it, far away from it, facing it, not facing it, it just keeps saying I need a fire. How do I fix this?

Light a fire.
Go to cooked meat.
Right click on the fire.
Start cooking.

I'm trying to harvest some wild flax i found. I have the farming skill, and I'm trying to harvest them. It doesn't work. I try to harvest and clicking them doesn't do anything. It wont work. The harvest icon just changes my mouse, it wont let me do anything with it. Help me please, what am I doing wrong?

If right clicking does nothing (normal right click, don't worry about the harvest skill), then it isn't ready to harvest.

But since you also said that this is "wild flax", I'm guessing it's not actually flax at all and you're just misinterpreting a piece of heath or something.

I don't know what it is. Wiki said that I obtained flax or hemp seeds from purple flowers i found growing. I found a rather large field filled with purple flowers and wheat, what is it then?

That's just a generic ground type called "heath". All you're seeing is just the floor tile sprite, none of which can be interacted with.

That wiki article is apparently too old. The new way of finding seeds in the wild is by picking wild windsown weeds (WWWs). Then drying them on a rack, or table.
