Psy and rangers gear

How exactly does psy interact with the final quality of the product?
I made 2 pairs of ranger boots recently and I had some curious results. One pair was made from materials that were a few points higher in quality, I believe the leather was 10 points higher and the silk thread 5 points. Both pairs ended up below the average of the materials, but above the psy of the crafter (worthless sewing alt with low psy). The surprising part here is that both pairs ended up exactly the same Q, yet above the psy so it's not a hardcap.

I know rangers gear isn't all that, but I'd still love to know what's going on here for curiosities sale. Perhaps the avg of psy+dex hardcaps?

There's no hard caps in crafting, it's always a softcap. For ranger gear, I believe it's the third root of psy*dex*sewing.
