How does ranging work

I very well know how finding scents and that kinda stuff works, but I am interested about the part with the punishment.

If I find a thief's scent and I find the guy who stole from me, and if I attack him and kill him, will I leave a murder scent?

And what LP do I get for murdering?

You will leave a murder scent.

Don't know about how much LP you get, but it's probably a decent amount or people wouldn't go around killing people.
