Building Palisade corner posts

Postby footwo » Wed Jul 14, 2010 11:55 am

OK so I'm slowly building up my palisade but I can't figure out the corners, weird things are happening:

Image

So that first image, the red circled bit is where I originally wanted my corner post. I stopped building the wall segment one tile before that circled area then chose to build a cornerpost. but instead of placing the cornerpost there it extended the fence by one tile THEN added the cornerpost, which I was not expecting.

So anyway I re-paved the ground leading down to where the other corner post was going to be and continued building. When I got to where I wanted my next corner post I remembered what had happened so I stopped building the fence 2 tiles before where I wanted my corner, and this fucking happened:

Image

So you can see the tiles on the other side of the fence, that's where I wanted the palisade to go, but when I chose to build the corner post at the red circled bit, this time it did not extend the fence by one tile, it just built it right where I chose.

WTF! is it one rule for horizontal placement and one for vertical? What gives? How come the first time when I chose to place a corner post it extended the fence by one tile but the second time it didn't?

I'm worried about getting my end corner post to line up with my initial one.

Any advice?

Maybe you were off by one tile because you were confused by how the pavement tiles seem to make things look a little off in terms of alignment.

Next time, I suggest you put up a signpost where a cornerpost is going to go so that you don't mess things up.

(And the only way to fix this is to bash down the wall with a ram. Hopefully, you and your friends have a total of 100+ STR).

I used the land management tool (CTRL+L) to measure the tile exactly, the first cornerpost was lined up perfectly but once I had finished building it it extended by one extra tile. I'm sure it must have been me making a mistake somewhere along the lines but I can't see how :/

You did something wrong, for sure. One building site = one tile, whether you're extending or placing cornerposts. I don't even see a problem in the second screenshot; the cornerpost is placed exactly where you circled in red.

Keep in mind that fences are two tiles high, but only occupy one tile. It's a perspective thing, and you can see this clearly by walking behind a wall.

Yeah that's my point, it worked the second time where I built in that red area and it became a corner post, not so the first time.

You can tell when looking at the sign what it's going to become based on what the box is labeled and what mats it requires. I cannot even begin to imagine how you could have placed a signpost on one tile, filled it with items, then had it create a totally different structure as well as making the structure you wanted out of thin air a tile west.

Apologies, I wasn't having a great morning today and didn't read the post very well. :)

My thoughts on this echo Zamte's. Maybe you were distracted, or went to sleep and forgot what you had been building the day before... who knows. It happens, though.
