Why did my chickens die?

Why did my chickens die? I got five of them in a coop and some fodder. I used pumpkin flesh. Later, I find that all my chickens are dead and there are still plenty of fodder in the coop. I don't think that anyone just came and killed them as nothing have been stolen.

Whether Iska is joking or not, that's pretty much the only reason they'd be dead. Do you see their bodies, or are they just gone?

If there's carcasses, somebody wrung their necks.

yes, there were bodies. I did not add food at the same time as the chickens, but about 10 min after, so I don't think that they died to hunger.

When chickens starve to death, their quality halves, so you can easily tell if they starved. If they haven't, somebody wrung their necks, there's no other explanation.

Since there still was food in the coop, yea. Someone murdered your chickens. Build a pallisade.
