What food should I eat?

Postby zennext » Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:29 pm

I haven't leveled up my strength at all, so I don't have much combat skills, what food should I eat that's accessible to me to level up strength?

I've seen that, but where do I start? I can't kill bears, which are obviously best, so would I just want to start on something like curd for strength? or animals like foxes? Or do I try leveling up melee combat and getting a sword then fighting stronger animals? I'm not sure how to start getting the items I want.

Curd is a good idea. But if you want stuff like boar meat, your best bet is trading for it. A lot of hunters will sell it for iron, carrot cakes or silk. Just make at thread in "Apples for oranges" when you have things to trade.

Do you really think he has iron, carrot cakes, OR silk?

Hey, zennext: As it stands, most players start out with archery because pathfinding doesn't work. That way you can get boars stuck on rocks/trees and pincushion them until they die. Otherwise, yes, get your melee up and find a friend who is willing to give you a sword. Most of the larger towns will help you out if you ask nicely - bottleneck for instance.
i guess they never miss huh

Well, he could mine a bit at any public mine and make some cast iron. It doesn't take that much time, and a lot of people want cast iron for chests.

I have a mine. And a friend, and can make a sword soon, so I am fine. Also a small farm that I could acquire the ingredients for carrot cake. And a lake next to me. I don't have silk though. Where do you get the moths/eggs to start that?

You need to catch moths. You can find them flying around in the plains, but they're quite rare. After you've caught a breeding pair, however, you can expand your flock from there by letting the cocoons hatch. It's faster to catch multiple pairs for start, though. However, if you have a mine I'm guessing you're industry specialized, which makes silk production inefficient/impossible unless you have a nature specialized friend willing to unravel the cocoons for you.
