Is it possible to accidentally leave a scent?

Back when I was making my overlong trek to my current village, I passed through many ruins. At least, I *think* they were ruins; nobody around, rotting collapsing walls, etc., very tragic-looking. I passed through many of them as a shortcut, since it takes ages to get around carrying a boat. If I didn't pass through any areas that would have required me to enable criminal acts just to enter (y'know, where the big colored border flashes and pushes you back and is all like 'this land is claimed by somebody'), would I have left any scents?

Oh, right, sorry, got confused about that thread earlier, it was just that you could leave summonable scents without having criminal skills, which IMO is a bug.
