2 - 3 FPS on a Fairly Decent PC

I'm in the first room and the game runs at 2 to 3 frames per second.

There's absolutely no reason I should get such awful performance on this game. Every other Java game runs perfectly fine. Hell, I can run modern 3D games fine. How do I make the performance not bad?

My specs are:

OS: Windows 7
Java: Latest.
RAM: 2 GBs
Processor: 2.4 GHz Dual Core AMD Athlon
Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon 4850 - 512 MB

My drivers are up to date.

On my machine the client dosn't like it when it's overlaid by other stuff (like requesters).

So maybe check if you have stuff like that active (eg. like a nice clock always showing or the like)...

Sorry about that. Have you tried going beyond the character creation room? How long have you tried playing? It is also worth noting that when there are over 300 players, it can get pretty laggy, so it may not be your computer at all.

Yes, I went beyond the character creation room and tried playing for maybe 10 minutes or so. I've tried numerous times at different times of day, and it's still the same deal. Nobody I know who plays the game has their framerate down to literally 2 or 3 frames per second.

If you running adaware by anychance, shut it down. That thing lags the crap out of everything.

Nope, I don't have adaware. And I don't keep any protection constantly running.

I had the same problem a week ago. With me it was because my colour settings were screwed. Messing about with the settings seemed to work for me.
