Two Probably Easily-Answered Questions (Chickens and Bees)

Postby GD » Mon Jul 19, 2010 6:35 pm

Hey all,

I've been playing this game for about 5 days and I have a small farm established with two friends of mine etc. I use the wiki a lot, but there are two things I'm still unsure of:

1. Chicken coops -- I have hens in there, as well as some roosters (yeah, I know you only need one rooster) and some fodder. The hens have space beneath them. The wiki says it takes 'around 1 real life day' to lay an egg. I've had this coop for about 2 days. I'm wondering, is there some more specific logarithm to determine how often an egg is laid? Something that's determined by fodder quality? I'd love to know, thanks.

2. Bees -- Pretty much the same question: how long does it take for beehives to start producing honey/wax? Or is there some special requirement for that?

Thanks a bunch!

1. As far as i know, no. It doesn't lay on the quality of the fodder quality. They just lay one egg a day.
2. Sorry, can't help you with that.

bees produce wax and honey when there are growing crops nearby

How many crops your growing and how many hives you have will affect how quickly or slowly any given hive will start producing honey or wax. There's no 100% known ratio, but try not to overlap your hives too much if you want them producing.

Okay, I think I actually have the chicken problem solved.

About the hives, though? What's an appropriate set up? If I have one hive overlooking about 20 planted crops, is that good or bad? I think that's what I'm not getting.

I used to think beehives took forever to create honey and wax as well (wax in particular). However, after I increased the number of crops around the hive, that wasn't the case anymore. For reference, I currently have ~120 tiles of crops around one of my hives and it produces wax about every other day.
