There is a bear on my property

As the title says, there is a bear on my property, and I want to be rid of it. I originally planned to just close the gate to where I am, and sling stones at it until it died so I could harvest it, but the wiki says that bears with just destroy "lesser wooden objects". So I was wondering if roundpole fences counted for this, or can I just get rid of the soulless killing machine at my leisure from behind the safety of the fences?
