thats why you should use a palisade instead

Fence keeps the boars out, so they don't chase you around when you're trying to farm. Against thieves you'll need atleast palisade, or even better brick wall.

Round wooden fences are mostly a cosmetic feature but have the added benefit of keeping hostile animals off your property. If you don't live near a river and don't have any large settlements nearby, it's easy to get by with just a wooden fence. The moment that you give people easy means of transportation (Rivers, roads, etc.) then you're likely to be robbed and destroyed. They're also good at keeping livestock in appropriate areas.

Don't try to keep chickens or rabbits in them though, they'll just walk right through them as if they weren't there =)

Well if its on claimed land, only people with I think is either trespassing, or vandalisim can enter if its compltetly closed. Also keeps boars out like the others said. not much else after that, but they do look more friendly, though thats pointless in this game.
