Farming/agriculture placement

Postby jokewood » Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:57 pm

I'm just now getting started down the "nature" path, and trying to get a nice farm going. I was curious if any of you experienced players had any useful tips for how to place crop fields in terms of preferred size, beehive placement, and containers for sorting seed quality? Does anyone out there have a screenshot of a really successful farm?

Any tips for raising crop quality or maximizing LP gain would also be most welcome :).

I like that one:

Set the faster growing crops on first farms.
3 square road on middle to let the cart pass, farm of beehive max size, i think its 13x13.
1 square "road" between each farm, mostly to visual appeal, also better organization. You may use it to put some containers to store some seeds.
You may choose to flood outer road(oposed to middle one) with chicken coops, to feed then with shits you dont need.
To filter the better Q seeds i use a full inventory of seedbags, farm the whole farm, use the cart to get then all to the store house full of cupboards, i the shift+ctrl+wheel to filter then at once and plant only the highest Q.
Cave is a nice usage as store house, as long shits dont decay you can flood of thousands of cupboards.
I prefer this model of vertical farm, cuz its better organizated, also if you need natural resources near your area, you can make a 1square road to use the cart well.

for my personal farm i have 4x4 fields for most things, 3 6x6 wheat fields, 2 6x6 grape fields, and 1 6x6 field for whatever i want a little more of at the time. right now it has beets. oh, and i have some random pumpkins around, right by my animals for easy feeding. i like a wider road between crops, with room for some chests or herb tables depending on the crop. beehives with minimal overlap.
