Metal and what next?

How does one find metal in H&H? Also, what is the next step for my 'settlement'? I have farms, kiln, oven, chicken coop and loom.

To get metal you need a mine. In order to find a mine, you need to make rustroot extract which can only be obtained by having somewhat high values in perception and exploration. from what they say though you will have a difficult time finding a mine if you live in a central grid as they have all been taken. havent verified this myself but that's what i hear. so if you live in a central grid your best bet might be to find a trade partner for metal, look around for nearby villages with brick walls, or mine holes. people will generally accept things in trade like linen cloth, chantrelles, cavebulbs, or possible bone glue, bricks. i would not recommend trying a hostile takeover of a mine, as someone with iron/bronze is pretty much guaranteed to be geared better than you.

for you i would find some way of securing a supply of iron or bronze. swords are not an absolute necessity, especially if you haven't trained in melee combat a lot, but the metal tools like a scythe, pickaxe, meat grinder, and chests make life a lot easier in the hearthlands.

also as you're out doing your thing, keep an eye out for high quality water or clay, find something really good (i think 80+ is considered really good these days) and you'll be as rich as if you had struck gold.

Just a little tip: Try to have an acsess to everything, yet also bare on what you excel in. For instance if you farm a lot, train everything that goes into that and have acsess to other stuff, but don't worry about its quality, just in case.
