Hearth Fires + Village + Creatures = what level?

so how many hearth fires does it take for a creature to delvl?
used to have lvl 9 creatures and now that i tried killing one now they fell to lvl 4......

my random guesses lol
1. a spam of new characters or something in our area has really screwed over good bear materials
2. creatures that spawn inside a village claim loses 5 lvls
