You need herbalist table, tree planter's pot filled with water and soil, and a seed for the trees, example for apple tree you need apple core which you will get after you eat an apple, for mulberry tree you need mulberry, for other trees and the detail process you might want to check the wiki since I can't remember all.
I have planted apple trees near my settlements and but they grow a bit slow.

After you have treeplanter's pot filled with water, soil and the tree seed required you need to put it on the herbalist table for sometime and after that you'll find out whether the tree sprout or dead. If its sprout then you can plant it.
