You can reincarnate but you lose skills and skill points. Though you might retain some skills (I think it is based on Personal Beliefs) and you do keep some of your unspent skill points. You reincarnate in the character creation room by clicking the dead characters tomb stone.

On death, all of your skills are liquidated into LP. Depending in your Tradition/Change slider, you will retain a percentage of that LP on your reincarnation (25% loss as full Tradition, 75% loss as full Change). The same loss will apply to all your attributes (down to the minimum of 10). Your beliefs will all be retained, except for the Tradition/Change slider, which is reset to neutral.

Make a new character and in the character creation room right click the headstone of your old character. They're dead, forever. They are now your ancestors. You'll inherit some of their stats, skills, and life points as well as any property they owned.
