Palisade question

If everything was correct placment and paving, and you made a gate, would it be possible if one of them was sealed?

He's saying that he has everything set up to build a palisade gate but one of the cornerposts is sealed. He wants to know if this will prevent him from building a gate or if he can use the open cornerpost to build one like normal. I assume you can build one still but I honestly have never tried this and thus do not actually know if you can or can not.
