Can't Attack

I seem to be unable to attack, please answer if I am just doing it wrong. I first press Combat>Attacks>Certain Attack then I attempt to click on the specified target and nothing really happens so I am screwed every-time a hog comes by...

Yes, you are not meeting the required conditions to execute the chosen attack type.
