Carthage is now recruiting.

Swirling within the vast cosmos the birth and death of stars has gone on for as long as any hearthling can remember. So has this been the same with the old ones. Different deities from ancient civilizations long forgotten from the minds and hearts of hearthlings thus stripping them of their power. But still, in some form, they remain. Patiently they sleep and wait for a chance to again captivate the hearts and minds of hearthlings everywhere and be released upon the world.

And so it has been quiet for ages...

But now, deep within the center of the universe, Two suns are dying. Depleted of fuel and in their final death throes, they went supernova.
What made this event so special and unique was that both suns resided in solar systems very close to each other and the resulting black holes had overlapping event horizons. This galactic scale version of tug of war between both of the black holes singularities resulted in a tearing in the very fabric of our dimension that resulted in the linking of our reality to alternate ones for a short time.

Nearby, something primordial was awakened...

Reaching full consciousness, Ba'al felt flush with power.

"What has caused this?' he wondered. "Have the hearthlings begun to worship me again? Is my wait finally over?"

Resolving to check for himself Ba'al began the journey to Hearth but as he left the vicinity of the black holes he felt his power wane greatly.
Turning back to inspect this phenomenon further, he noticed the tear in reality and felt a deep connection to it.
Intrigued, he sent his consciousness through the link and immediately fell into contact with the alternate version of himself in that reality.
In this time and place, Ba'al was at the height of his power. Resolving not to befall the same fate and with knowledge that the gate was fast closing, he formed a plan.
Focusing his power, He reached out and plucked his champion from the throes of his greatest defeat, at a certain Battle of Zama and returned through the gate to his original reality just as the link was closing. Knowing his time and power was limited and unconsciousness was closing in again, Ba'al hurled his champion across the cosmos to Hearth. Again, he faded into blackness with the hope his champion would thrive and bring about a new age on Hearth.

Hannibal (from Phoenician Hann - "grace" and baal - "master" or "lord"; hence translating as "The Glory of Ba'al') opened his eyes.

Looking around, he was dumbfounded to see he was lying exactly in the center of a colossal crater. Climbing out but still disoriented, he gazed upon flattened trees forming a circle around him as far as the eye could see.

"Ba'al have mercy on me." he prayed. "What has happened to me?"

Suddenly he felt a presence with him and a voice whispering in his ear. The voice explained he was Ba'al reborn and that he had brought him here, from the clutches of defeat, to a different world. He then went on to explain that Hannibal's defeat at the Battle of Zama was the turning point in his career that eventually led to the decline in power and defeat of Carthage.

"My Carthage..." he whispered sadly with a tear streaming down his cheek. "How I miss it."

"Rebuild" commanded the hissing voice in his ear. "We will do it together."

Steeling his resolve, Hannibal whispered a prayer of thanks to his deity and trudged off into the wilderness, accepting his fate as Ba'als champion and relishing in the thought of getting a second chance...

The Rebirth of Carthage

Greetings, Carthage is currently OPEN for recruitment.

- All positions are currently available.

- I would like to give more information on what my village offers, but less is more and it is better to err on the side of caution then blatant screen shot posting and attracting the wrong kind of attention. If you do join I think you will come to appreciate that. It's the basic walled setup everything a new or middle aged player will need.

- I'm a realist. I know that currently most if not all skilled older veteran players minus a few hermits/griefers currently reside in a village. I'm looking for you, semi-experienced middle aged guy with good knowledge of the game and his roles. If you are an "end game" experienced player and you are interested then of course you are welcome.

- You must be Mature.

- You must be Active. ( We understand IRL happens.)

- We will accept very new players, but you must understand how to search the forums/wiki for basic answers. You will not be coddled every step of the way but of course you can get help.
Other mmo's/sandbox games experience is a plus.

- We are currently EST based but welcome players from any timezone, as someone on while your sleeping makes everyone breathe easier.

- You need to understand that you are a little fish in a big pond, and if you attract the wrong kind of attention, your gone.

- Your past matters. If you robbed/murdered someone, and your past catches up to you and they want justice, we shall part ways. We are not looking to become a refuge to criminals.

- We have scheduled events, meetings, and discussions about the direction of our beloved Carthage (even the little guys opinion matters and will be taken into consideration.)

- We would like spread the wealth. Not looking to get a select few rich through the labors of many. If you do your job, and participate in group jobs. You will be rewarded.
Not looking to have every member give up everything they worked hard for either. It's your choice. I'm looking to promote healthy trading and strong Capitalism.

- There is always more to speak about, talk about, explain to you, but once again less is more. why don't you just find out firsthand?

- Land and Houses still available within gates to claim. I want us to be a tight knight group, public storage on items all members need, group curiosities production, and always be willing to lend a hand.

- Have fun. It's a game. If you feeling like logging on is going to work or a grind, your doing it wrong.

If you are interested please fill out this form and Pm or email it to : GloryToCarthage@hotmail.com

The government of Carthage was an oligarchal republic, which relied on a system of checks and balances and ensured a form of public accountability. The Carthaginian heads of state were called Suffets (thus rendered in Latin by Livy 30.7.5, attested in Punic inscriptions as SPΘM /ʃuftˤim/, meaning "judges" and obviously related to the Biblical Hebrew ruler title Shophet "Judge"). Greek and Roman authors more commonly referred to them as "kings". SPΘ /ʃufitˤ/ might originally have been the title of the city's governor, installed by the mother city of Tyre. In the historically attested period, the two Suffets were elected annually from among the most wealthy and influential families and ruled collegially, similarly to Roman consuls (and equated with these by Livy). This practice might have descended from the plutocratic oligarchies that limited the Suffet's power in the first Phoenician cities.[citation needed] The aristocratic families were represented in a supreme council (Roman sources speak of a Carthaginian "Senate", and Greek ones of a "council of Elders" or a gerousia), which had a wide range of powers; however, it is not known whether the Suffets were elected by this council or by an assembly of the people. Suffets appear to have exercised judicial and executive power, but not military[citation needed]. Although the city's administration was firmly controlled by oligarchs[citation needed], democratic elements were to be found as well: Carthage had elected legislators, trade unions and town meetings. Aristotle reported in his Politics that unless the Suffets and the Council reached a unanimous decision, the Carthaginian popular assembly had the decisive vote - unlike the situation in Greek states with similar constitutions such as Sparta and Crete. Polybius, in his History book 6, also stated that at the time of the Punic Wars, the Carthaginian public held more sway over the government than the people of Rome held over theirs (a development he regarded as evidence of decline). Finally, there was a body known as the Hundred and Four, which Aristotle compared to the Spartan ephors.[22] These were judges who oversaw the actions of generals.

Pure oligarchies were actually only in ancient Greece at the time.
Thanks for dropping in and saying we will be communists, tyrannicals, and the same as the Party from George Orwel's Ninteen Eighty-Four.

I must respectfully decline your observation though.

Thank you.

Edit: Actually Radenk the area you quoted did seem a bit misleading. Cleared it up a bit I think. Thanks
