Looking for fellow hermits

Postby Horatius » Tue Jun 07, 2011 3:44 pm

I'm hoping to find one or if possible also a few more fellow hermits who would be willing to join me at my place. My little settlement has grown to a point where the daily chores are starting to wear me out, so I'd really like to find someone who shares this burden with me.

My little "kingdom" offers the following features:

- 44 quality water and 46 soil quality at a nearby spot
- a couple of nearby quality 30 clay nodes with the highest quality being 36
- access to all basic metals through a mine within the settlement (currently just iron but it can be expanded to encompass copper and tin deposits as well)
- all crops (quality ranging from 25 to 61) and a small tree farm (quality 30)
- a small livestock pen containing 3 sheep and 2 cattle of both genders + a chicken coop
- many different landscape types in the vicinity for easy foraging
- river access from the settlement
- located in a peaceful, widely uninhabitated wilderness area
- basic security measures (currently working on a brickwall)

As you can see, the place is certainly nothing special but it offers a bit of everything at convenient distances. I really just want to attract a few agreeable fellows to help me out with this.
Playing a hermit myself I can understand that you wouldn't necessarily want to specialize in a certain task but if you do, all the better. A farmer would be a great boon because I absolutely dislike farming and my main character is full industry in his personal beliefs. If not, well then I'll have to deal with tasks I can't stand but at least I know some other things are happening meanwhile (building the brickwall, cooking, hunting, foraging, etc). Of course we will have to share the outcome but I'm sure we can come to some sort of agreement here. At the moment I'm producing far too many goods for one person anyway. And I'm also feeding a lot to my farmer / cook / carpenter / tailor alt which might as well be you in the future.

I don't intend to turn this into a real village right now but it might develop into one, depending on how many people apply, etc. But really... I'd be more than happy if even one person is willing to join.

So, this is what I'm expecting from you in return:

- a certain degree of maturity (a completely overused word but hey... you get the idea)
After all, I'd rather not have an unpredictable timebomb living in my settlement that just needs to feel offended to go into a berserker rage. And I wouldn't like to have conversations about... err.. Naruto or whatever either. I will deem you worthy or unworthy depending on your reply here and your behavior ingame once you are invited over.
- a minimum of activity to get the daily chores done (must not be every day but once a week is not enough unless you're totally adorable)
- some architectural taste. I love paving with bricks and hopefully you do as well. At the very least I don't want to see the landscape ruined by huge stone paved areas with nothing on them.
- a rather peaceful character. I don't want this to turn into a some pirate harbour for raiders and I don't want rangers hanging around the gates either just because you have sticky fingers or somesuch.
- while game experience and a developed character are nice, it's not a must have for me. You can join me with a fresh character and perform tasks that are not skill related until you're good enough to do something else. I'd also be happy to explain the game to you when you have questions.

If you want to join, you can either reply here or send me a PM. I haven't actually thought about how to get you here yet, but I'm sure we can manage something. I'll probably have to build a village idol but I wanted to do that sooner or later for trading anyway. Once you join, you can choose a green spot within the brickwall (as far as it stands already) and I'll help you set up your house there. My area and the mine will be sealed off to you in the beginning but you'll receive keys later if you turn out to be trustworthy and have business there. I'll also supply you with the necessary tools for your trades and whatever else comes up.

I'm sure taking a risk here and if a griefer manages to get in and messes things up... well what's lost is lost. At least I won't turn into a mindless farming robot that way (did I mention I HATE farming already? ;o).

Also, if anyone cares: my time zone is gmt+1 but I think we can get along independant of that.
I'm still ashamed and embarrassed about my last post. There are many small reasons but no real excuse for what I said in the end. All that remains is regret because I won't be able to make up for it again.

See you in a different game maybe. Hopefully without retardation from my side.

Sounds like a nice offer. Just one thing.

Bad idea. Read this guide on how to handle keys: http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7116

True. I've read that before but I didn't understand what crossroads were back then. I still haven't bothered with the whole village stuff much yet but at least I see the importance of that now.

Sadly, nobody has shown interest so far anyway.

I don't know why but I have a good feeling about your proposition... and I might consider joining you.

Currently I have a place very similar to yours, except that it is brickwalled allready, the village claim is up and the crossroads are functionnal. So finishing that brickwall and taking the security mesures would be one of my exigences if I join you (I am not leaving a brickwalled place to downgrade). Of course I would help with the work.

I have a hearthling that is primarly a hunter / forager and is well developped (few million LPs, 200 survival, 200 UA etc.) and a bunch of alts character ( a miner, a farmer, a scout...).

I play a lot, can handle the farmwork with my alt farmer (I would prefer if we share it though) and I am pretty much in the same situation as you (I produce way too much stuff). Also we are in the same timezone which is a big plus (I live in Belgium).

If I am to join you, I would also request that the minehole should be secured if it is inside the town (with a separate wall) and you have to know that I might need a lot of space to feel confortable (my current settlement is 110*90 tiles and I use 4 different house for personnal storage, including two stone mansions).

If you are interested after reading those few words, please send me a screenshot or two of your place so I can take a look at it and make a better opinion (I can return the favor).

I have not yet made my mind, but like I said I have a nice vibe about this.

EDIT : Also keys are to be kept on an alt character and should never be online, like in the guide that was lonked to you.
