Geopolitics for Dummies (and worse: newbies)

Postby eldorito » Mon Aug 15, 2011 11:16 pm

Is there any kind of primer one could read that would explain just what is going on in geopolitics in World 5, at a high level? I gather that there's a major faction or city called Pandemonium, and that the Russians are effectively to be considered a single hivemind, but I don't really know any more than that, and I don't know how to get to that kind of information without combing through a lot of politics I wouldn't understand well enough to ask questions about...

I ask because the little village I started with some buddies from work was progressing nicely until we started looking around the village near us, a lovely little hamlet by the name of "Taar". Several murders, palisade breeches, and thefts later, we have moved far, far away from that, and have read a thread or two about Taar, all of which would have been good to read before settling near them.

So what I'm looking for is hopefully clear: any kind of political information, maps, anything like that that isn't sensitive enough to be "classified" or anything like that. Does anything like that exist?

Thanks!

there's the world map in the wizards tower forum. not many village names on it yet, but it could still be useful.

Actually, that's something else I'd meant to ask: is there any updating going on with the algeralith.info map? if so, how do we contribute map data? Either way, is how that site works publicly available information? Is it just a matter of understanding the google maps model, or was it modified in some meaningful way, or what?
