He was. Saw him on my way over, he was sitting by the ram when I came by. If some dude with a dragon helmet and a battleaxe approached you, you'd do exactly as they said too.

However, if any rangers -actually- decide to help you, please inform them to hit me and not him, he was only doing what he needed to do to escape that situation with his life.

edit: Olli, I was able to check your village's name on a previous lurking.
