I understood the risk involved the moment I made this thread. Sure, this is a game where when someone steals from you, you (or a hired mercenary) go and find the thief so you can wear their entrails as a hat... and possibly get your stuff back, and villages will skirmish and war for land control rights when a particularly good resource lays between and negotiations have reached an impasse, but unlike a Deathmatch-style environment, there is a social construct in effect here, and being numb to those that got totally boned to total happenstance by something wholly out of their hands is kind of a dick move. Sure, I may very well find myself at the point of a blade before this is all over, but it'd be worth it.
