How to fight noob-ism

Postby Jeebus » Mon Aug 15, 2011 11:39 pm

As the title suggests, here are some suggestions for you to use in the future to keep this from happening again, xxxSCOPESxxx, and for any other new guys out there:

  1. Key alts, key alts, key alts!! Because of the weak key system we have now, H&H 101 is to always have an alt has keeps the keys on them at all times, can be accessed by all trustworthy members of your group or village, and NEVER sets foot outside the village. This way, if they want keys, there must be murder, and murder leaves scents, and scents = sweet vengeance in the form of cute hats made from thief entrails (it should be that way...).
  2. Don't eat yellow snow.
  3. Unless you need to kin someone (i.e. you party someone and want to kin remotely, or are trying to recruit folks here on forums [and then only give via PM, herp-a-derp]), always clear out your hearth secret, lest, er, this.
  4. If you have a village, get yourself some one-way crossroads leading out of the village walls. NEVER make crossroads or install signs that lead INSIDE your walls. That... That's just... noooo...... That's why God, er, Loftar invented the "Travel to Village" button.

As for your problem, um, either build you a ram, or if you haven't been at this long, start looking into new characters. Maybe one day you can hulk out and pali=bash into your own place. But seriously, I hate to say it, but he got you good. That's why there some sarcastic overtones in this thread, i.e.:

This got me thinking.. how was the new characters who jumped into the village using this guy hearthsecret, steal the key?

As far as I know, new characters dont start with thievery...?

The only option I can think of is that these newbies didnt have a pclaim on the object where the key was.
If so.. really..? Darwinism be my savior!

Well this is the most likely scenario, but it's not the only one. It's possible for someone to make an alt with enough LP for the black skills, store that LP in a pclaim, suicide, and reincarnate prepared to buy all black skills immediately.

You may have foiled the plans of BAD-EVIL this time, but there is no rest for the wicked.

Even if OP had Personal Claim over the key, if OP had the colour white enabled to Vandal/theft/Trespass (which is the default colour for a new kin) then the "noob" that "stole" the key would not have required any skills at all to take the key and would not have left scents.

In all honesty these aren't things new players (should have to) worry about because they are unaware of the risks.

Good luck guys OP, PM you your Co-ords and if you're within my area I'll see what I can do.

Cheers - K.R
