I really hope Jorb or Loftar give their opinion on things like this, though. Maybe in W6 there will be more ways for traders to protect themselves?

They can protect themselves by not trading with morons such as yourself with 20 posts, the more posts someone has on the forum, the more of a reputation they probably have that they don't want to dick up for a couple cheap curios and what have you.

That's what I thought too, but apparently the mods think that scamming like this is abusing a glitch because the traders can't protect themselves (if I understood correctly).

There are already plenty of ways for traders to protect themselves, they just have to use them :)

I'm actually surprised we haven't seen more of such scams until now, they are after all incredibly easy if the trader isn't careful. When I was an active trader I never had anyone try anything fishy.

To be honest, agroing your trading partner is not okay with me. Simply cause I don't want any scents in my trading area and I don't want my partners to feel uncomfortable.

Not trading with 20- post people is also not fair to those who wouldn't scam you yet they need stuff from you. You just need to be carefull with them and don't trust them. So you let them pay & then give goods out of your inventory/house, wherever.

cauda mentioned somewhere that he would have area + hf outside of it, wait for payment, go pick goods and then deliver into that walled area. This is safe, yet, you don't have 10-15 trades per day like some people do, so you don't think how much extra work it is for this for each trade, instead to just port, trade, go home as 90% of trades go through usually. I personaly wouldn't use your option cause I'm too lazy.

Another option is, which I always have ready, have combat char somewhere near (in house, by CR to jump in) just in case there are troubles.

Last, scented items are not bad idea, since no one ever knows you are scenting them, yet that is another extra work for traders which I doubt they would do for every trade.

Hope just everyone protect himself from bad perpetrators + I also don't think giving their name out in forums isn't solution, after all, this is like 1/10 if not less bad thing that CS jumping is, and lot of villages gets raided by this still now and its simple broken game mechanics we can't defend against. (but thats another topic, was just saying forums can't be connected to crimes like this, it is simple dev thing to fix or ot)

I don't know about trading person to person while having middle "trade window open" so you put goods inside, other person puts them then both click trade. I have a feeling I've heard some bad roumors about this, tho I played some mmos before and that was quite good solution, and safe ofc.

Ya, it gets complicated dealing with this sort of issue and then you're still on the problem that this was probably an alt that they can leave offline for a few weeks without caring too much about them. Without summonable scents to that alt you have no way to recover your goods and no one to get revenge upon. Same if they were to suddenly just port out of there.

When I was doing the whole trade thing I'd just keep smaller trades with people I didn't know outside of my village with a buddy around. If you wanted to do a bigger trade you needed either a large reputation on the forum or lots of micro transactions with me so I knew you weren't going to screw me over. This way at least if you get screwed over, it's not terrible.

Scenting items just seems really dishonest. I don't think people would want to trade with me if they heard that I scented my items - if I was a different kind of person, I could use that to find many, many smaller villages to raid. I much rather just be careful and make sure they give the payment first, in large trades with unknowns. In extremely large trades where both sides are a little nervous, I tend to try and split it into a few smaller trades.

I agree, scenting items is bad. I would also dislike trading under aggro.
