In circumstances like this, where everything is so damn peculiar, that's not necessarily enough. For all we know it was a thief alt, which is all too common and easy to make. Sacrificing a thief alt is cheap. That the thief alt was residing in the village is pretty damn suspect.
Who OP chooses to trust on this is entirely up to them but after so much damage it's hard to call it a day without some kind of reparations in one form or another.

Well, from an outsider perspective, while the village claims innocence you have evidence to the contrary. Unless they can provide something concrete to indicate that this wasn't them it's hard not to think something fishy is going on.

Well I know the guy was alive at one point chillin and walkin around inside their walls. I'm fairly certain he didn't use his grappling hook to scale the walls of an innocent village merely to chill there for hours upon hours. The fact that he is now dead and still inside the village leads me to believe he was a thief alt.

Alright folks, The villagers and myself are currently in the process of restoration of goods. This matter can be considered resolved (further resolutions will be in private ingame) unless shit rolls downhill and the village has to be burnt.
