A vault's not stopped me before, Butko really seems confident he can kill us anyway, surely he won't have to sit behind a vault till the murder scents are gone.

Not that it matters to me but Butko could just be trolling.
An enemy will only fight if he believes he either has a chance to win, or you've backed him into a corner and he's fighting for his life. A completely crushing victory provides an enemy with neither.
