I tl;dr'd OP twice but responses made it seem interesting so I read it and lol

it's a PvP game, don't whine because people are better than you, just be smart not to die and join with with pro guys, you don't necessarily need to be a villager in pro town like pandemonium to be a part of them, there's alliances and shit i assume (im only 2 weeks old too lol)

one thing I've found is you won't make much progress if you hang around with newbies lol

and protip: get a brick wall, cuz the only the top villages bother to deal with those and generally that's if they have an excuse to, so just don't give them any :]

The thing about the forums is that the most vocal players tend to be the player who enjoy the PvP and raiding aspect of the game. This doesn't mean that they are a majority (I know way more non violent people then violent). If you can play a political game you can for the most part make potential enemies allies (though it isn't necessarily free and you may die in the process). Find some people who will take you and start up a village. While you will never be able to compete with established players on your own, with a little bit of help you can grow very rapidly. As long as you avoid pissing people off and leaving lots of scents you should be relatively safe.

I also have an alt I've been hermit farming with for 2 weeks or so, a few questions.

at this point, pure theft seems like it would be more rewarding, faster way to get the gear,lp, i want. sorry. Just plain truth

starting for q10 quality shit, how long (guesstimate) will it take to get the q100+ the so called forum rulers of HnH wear? I'm guessing a long time to get all the skills required ( etc prospecting, to mining, to finding a mine, mining it and then starting up your Blacksmithing, building palisade(lots of bashers now and they abuse it) not counting your farming, cooking, etc etc YOU GET THE POINT.

Criminal till I die, I dont feel like playing farmville as long it took me to grind some 85's out in WoW. thx.

where's my criminals at?

i need qqtears to feed on in game, now now

I find that self-defeat is most common in preventing new factions from rising up. As we've seen in the past, powerful factions can rise up and harass the world if they can maintain a dedicated core member base. It's when you feel like you'll never achieve what the larger factions have achieved or be competitive with anyone that you sort of wane and stop being relevant.

You have no idea how valuable trade hubs are and acting as the center of travel for a multitude of smaller villages and communities is extremely profitable. Miniature ones pop up all the time.
Powerful fighters show up every once in awhile too. Individuals not from large factions but who have played with the combat system so extensively and know how to fight and out maneuver an opponent. The people who don't panic when you hit them with a Sting. Those are the people that you must truly fear in combat.
Some people never become a faction or large village either and just dedicate them to their craft. You can become so valuable and popular in an area that others will defend you if you're attacked or threatened. Whether it be cheeses, high quality logs, a decent farmer, or even a leather worker you can make friends and survive beautifully. I'm sorry but if someone was selling me bulk leather and high quality leather I would raise hell and high water if anyone so much as threw a rock at them.

Just don't think that you'll be useless because you've got a late start and no initial resources. This game works on a square root curve so you grow Really fast early on but almost not at all towards the top. Every begins to softcap and slow down and you have to push for bulk and numbers. The race for a big city isn't for everyone anyway.

tbh, a simple palisade take care of most of your problems unless you're camping on RUA front lawn or something silly

another common thing to point out traveling the rivers is yes, i feel bad for the mass amount of people who build right on the water ( unless your one of the big protected deeds I have passed through)
and stop in those towns to read runestones is actually quite funny. You get two types of runestones from HnH players, the first some sort of I want to be in your village/ i live nearby here is my hs thing and the second being the "lol learn to claim" "thanks for the loot" etc etc

such is life

Extremely well said, especially: "Whether it be cheeses, high quality logs, a decent farmer, or even a leather worker you can make friends and survive beautifully. I'm sorry but if someone was selling me bulk leather and high quality leather I would raise hell and high water if anyone so much as threw a rock at them. " Most people will take a reliable supply of quality goods then a quick kill and loot of what they currently have. People like being able to reliably get the things they want, and if you can provide that it is in their interest to make sure harm doesn't come to you.

being a criminal is the fastest way to get your shit packed in, if you don't know what you're doing and don't have the right setup (ie. a brickwall vault away from your main production center)

the only times i've ever died, aside from drowning and bearlag etc like we all have, but the only times i've died in pvp were when i had started shit.

If your goal is to be a thief then be a Really smart one. This also means don't post and publish your exploits too often unless you're absolutely sure you're safe from reprisal. I've seen some amazing thieves in the past and I've seen effective thief guilds become established.

You need to know how to exploit weaknesses in villages, how to hide until the heats off, and when a score is just too big and has to be left alone.

There are lots of different ways to do the same job -- lots of people use thief and vandalism alts to get what they want. I've seen thieves who have done it without either and just tend to have multiple vaults located around the world in frustrating to get to places, moving their hearthfire around as often as possible to throw people off and outlast scents.

That all said, it's hard to be smart and it's hard to be clever. It's a lot easier to just end up dead. I advise you to learn a bit about the game before branching off on your own as a thief. Hoping to become an immediately successful one in a world full of trigger happy rangers is a recipe for disaster.

I surely know I've razed three or four villages to the ground before because of petty theft in the past. Small ones, mind you but I'm sure they didn't appreciate it regardless. I've also just let thieves go because it became so much of a hassle to try and track them. There was one thief who had no hearthfire and was just moving around constantly for damn near 11 hours. He had stolen a couple of nuggets of silver and a few copper bars. By the end of it I resolved that he had earned the stupid things at that point and just went home to reprimand the villager who had lost them.
