And yes, 2 years in alpha stage is long term. I don't have an experience with non commercial projects to be honest. When I mentioned about continuing by someone else I was thinking only about the coding. They still would have the last word, this is their game and when I click loggin button I respect that.
All security systems are breakable, but does it mean we shouldn't use them? There are all the time new ways to jump walls, so why fix them? I don't know if client code was opened in 2009 but if it doesn't, that's the proof game needs security mechanism. Closed code isn't itself the one, it only makes harder to find those mechanisms.

My faction had a custom client one month after we joined the game in 2009.

Because the client is open source.....

Tell me how many custom clients there are available for Ragnarok, EVE, or any other respectable MMO.

Ragnarok? Oh man, oh man. You don't want to go there.
Once the dude who did XRay client reverse engineered it and provided a way to do most things (because it seems there's a lack of knowledge in this field readily available, or at least I found little back then) shit was smooth sailing, I had my own custom RO client even, wasn't too hard to do once someone made the step forward.

Since then I've found many communities dedicated to reverse engineering of MMO clients. Almost any generic Korean MMO more than a year old with a respectable database has some custom clients out there.

Why would they do that? I really think most players still don't understand what they are doing here. Jorb and Loftar develop a game for their personal enjoyment. They allow you to play their game for testing. Developing Hnh is their hobby and we are the test slaves that are "dumb" enough to do this because they released a pretty special game here.

And then use them until we are thoroughly satisfied.
