In circumstances like this, where everything is so damn peculiar, that's not necessarily enough. For all we know it was a thief alt, which is all too common and easy to make. Sacrificing a thief alt is cheap. That the thief alt was residing in the village is pretty damn suspect.
Who OP chooses to trust on this is entirely up to them but after so much damage it's hard to call it a day without some kind of reparations in one form or another.

Greetings everyone! Here is the story:

Vlad and the other wonderful villagers of Melsonia have informed me that some thief stole their wagon. This same thief also was the one who robbed my wife of all her items. They have kindly given her back what was taken even though the thief dumped most of the goods. My mistake, when I was tracking earlier it must've been his corpse after they already killed him. They were overall very friendly and courteous!
