actually i think your phrase "they are both using forum mechanics" sums it up really nicely and unambiguously.

edit: to the scum who stole: just give it back, and I doubt any mod will bother to out you. If they do out you, I'm pretty sure many of the traders in the game would join satori on a raid, and there are a lot of them . I don't really understand why you would do this when the last case of this happening was resolved so quickly by Burg outing the thief, so i would really suggest just giving up now. Would save everyone time and effort.

Although people like ichigo58 are freakin' idiots, and assholes for screwing around a trade like that, it does seem like in game moderation if the mods reveal his name, like the thief who stole from (rescu) ?

But do it anyway becasue people who screw over trades really should die, its a thing of trust.

Well, i guess it is a bit of a grey area... But in my opinion, people using the FORUMS to carry out their thefts, should be able to be outed on the FORUMS. It would be different if the mods could find out whose alt was attacking them in game, showing ip above their heads etc...

What this is is not in game moderation. Its moderation of the forums if anything, but obviously as there is no written rule the mods can do whatever they please. I'll be looking out for people in that ugly outfit though, for sure

I didn't read the thread about the last case of this happening. I figured that if the mods had something against this it would be in the RULES. I gave the things to my village mates and I doubt they would want to give it back, so now I don't know what to do. Besides, there won't be a raid. If I get outed, I'll just take a several week hiatus and come back when things have cooled down.

Mods didn't reveal anything at trade at Rescu 1 gold bar thief, thief got known for his forum name and issue is resolved.

If scammers can be outed by mods, there should be a formal notice about it, maybe in the rules. See, I did this thinking it was a scentless crime. If people can be "tracked" for doing things like this they should at least get a warning.

I'm pretty sure that most of the readers would wish for your identity to be revealed and not think about an abuse of mod power in the first place if it became true.

People's real accounts have been given out a few times just for fun already. Why should this be any different? If anything it would serve justice in the finest way possible. And it would probably make a wonderful story to read. It does not even matter whether the items are lost or not. Your whole argumentation is just a weak attempt to get off the hook, nothing far from begging. But maybe one should not expect dignity from a thief?

Satori seems to be the only decent big trader from the russian community so I felt like helping him. Didn't help you offered me stuff in return for keeping your name a secret, sillynipples. I am not even playing and even if I did there is probably not much you can offer me that I am really interested in.

On the general topic of outing people. I am not so sure. The first time I did it I was just kinda in a "Meh, fuck you. I am gonna out you, because I can" mood. Maybe the whole thing is questionable, then again hiding behind an alt to betray a known trader is just the worst. You usually leave scents in game for comitting crimes and we all know alts are kinda broken right now so I think it is justified if we mods decide to play police in such a case.

This was rather interesting if for no other reason than it brought to question a lot of things we just accept otherwise. Alt scamming is sort of a strange topic to deal with in the first place. In terms of game mechanics it's highly broken as you leave no scents and no way for the grieved to find retribution. In terms of power use it is a means of power balance of sorts as in the past people have complained that because mods can see ips they have an unfair advantage over other players. If everyone has access to this then there is no imbalance and everything is par.

On the other hand this is a reputation based market and trading with people who have no reputation at all should carry risks. It gives incentive to form positive relationships with others and establish a form of community for security.

I suppose this worked out alright even if neither party is going to walk away happily; as you're keeping the goods and traders don't get to string you up.
