This was rather interesting if for no other reason than it brought to question a lot of things we just accept otherwise. Alt scamming is sort of a strange topic to deal with in the first place. In terms of game mechanics it's highly broken as you leave no scents and no way for the grieved to find retribution. In terms of power use it is a means of power balance of sorts as in the past people have complained that because mods can see ips they have an unfair advantage over other players. If everyone has access to this then there is no imbalance and everything is par.
On the other hand this is a reputation based market and trading with people who have no reputation at all should carry risks. It gives incentive to form positive relationships with others and establish a form of community for security.
I suppose this worked out alright even if neither party is going to walk away happily; as you're keeping the goods and traders don't get to string you up.
Yeah, I agree. I'm surprised things like this don't happen more often. The traders could easily make it so that you would leave scents by putting their trading post on a landclaim and only trading with people who have theft, though.

im pretty sure some people know where her main char lived, so they can find the goods and get them back.
surely her main wasnt so famous, but i recognize many of her posts. (even the one she deleted with a ridicule story.)
this actually convinces me more not to trust new accounts who have played the game longer than the join date.
and even when someone has got a good record on one's main, we all know he/she can always act as a different role on alts.
Good luck with that, because I'm holding everything on an alt that won't log on for several weeks. The best you can do is destroy his hearth fire.

Good idea, I guess. I could go make bricks for the russians or something. You know, I'm not usually a thief. This is actually the first time I did something like this. now everybody's going to remember me as a criminal though... xD
