however that is not a bad thing. and there are already spy games. I discovered that there was one in my village for quite some time, as a minor example.

whats bad is abusing imbalanced forum mechanics, we're not discussing "slow infiltration" of anywhere, which would be epic ofc.

afaik, our forum mods are here to clean garbages and encourage dramas so that jorb can enjoy it here.

it is true that Satori should have known the risk, but that doesnt mean the abuser should be left alone when mods can help.

If Satory asked me to help him punish thieves ingame, i would definitely help him (would i still played).
But mods should not do the same out of game.
Just imagine, that you have asked devs about the same - reveal the main account of some thief. How do you think, what would they answer you?

a forum mod helped him on a forum thread about a forum trade. this issue could not happen if they didnt use forums.
mods cannot reveal the main account of a particular charactor(thief) in game. there are only players exchanging information. (unless the particular char is being particularly malicious.)
so, there is no comparison to your example to match this case.

once, loftar mentioned how he does not like the forum trades without actually meeting others.
you abuse the available systems, devs could set a new restriction to your game play.
e.g., some abuse the vault system, devs decide not to let you pave stones right next to swamps or water.

Please put up a notice to clarify that scammers and fraudulent users can and most likely will have their IPs tracked. There's no way I would have known to use a proxy without digging for hours for that other thread about the gold thief who's name I forget.

Satori made you a generous offer - give the stuff back and its like nothing happened. I know you are upset now, but you shouldn't just quit over this, if you enjoy the game. If you gave the stuff back, it would signal to most people that you felt bad about what you did, which will go quite far to repairing any reputation you may have once had.

What would be fair is to maybe discuss and develop some basic philosophy as to whether actions of alt-abuse in circumstances like this should be condoned or actively brought down and why.

That was my point, as at the moment it seems its completely at the mods discretion, say if the trader was hated, or if the thief was best pals with the mod, outcome wouldnt be the same, it should either be a rule set in stone or not

Although i dont think it should be a rule, h&h is pretty brutal game, people get f'kd over everyday, i love the complete lack of ingame rules and the sense of paranioa the game gives, and i think that people should be as wary on the forum as they are in game, im not really seeing this whole thread as "despicable thief" but more like "sloppy trader" and think that instead of moderating a pretty much unmoderated game one should just play a little more carefully

Seems a bit odd that mods can pick and choose like that also as im sure there are many people who wouldnt have got outed had it been them.

I do not understand why only Satori's mistakes are considered a fair chance to be exploited. Both could have known what is coming, not just Satori. As a thief you want to decrease any risks possible but you can never be certain that you do not get caught in the end. It did not work out for her and I see no reason why anyone should side with her now. She knew what would happen if the plan fails in some way and she could also have known that the events would turn out as they did if she were vigilant enough (read the forum more often and stay informed :p).
The whole distinction between ingame moderation and forum moderation is just distracting from this fact. All this remains her own fault, she is not the poor victim here. Burgingham was forced to act (either by saying he will not reveal the identity or by doing it) as the matter was pushed a bit and expectations were raised into his direction. In my book he made the right decision but obviously not everyone seems to share this view.

Also, it was expected that Cauda would show up. I was actually thinking about including this in my post earlier but I didn't want to sound like an ass. Too bad he really came, just to bicker at Burgingham.

In this case he actually has a point somehow or at least I can see why people would argue like he does.

Edit: Btw I am pretty sure had I only outed this first guy and now changed my policy to say I won't reveal any informations anymore then some people would have accused me of being biased and discriminating the Russian community (probably cauda himself).
