Is this right?

Postby Deadshy » Sun Jun 26, 2011 6:02 pm

So me and my five friends, we recently started the game not two weeks ago. It began with building the basic shelter next to a river (Foolishly) for what we thought would be easy access to fish and water. But eventually one day I saw a man sail down on a boat, I had heard before that we should be cautious about everyone we see. So I explained to my friend we should pack up and head more inland. So we put our stuff into crates and loaded a cart (That we found abandoned and repaired) and set on our way.

We came to a nice dirt patch and began building again. We eventually, after a weeks work made two timber houses, a nice fence and some other objects. We were pleased. One night however I found a Hearthfire behind a tree. I told my friends and we agreed to be cautious. Further south I found a boat and began to worry. A few days on and I told them I was going to make it across the river to find a safe town we could trade with. However when I reached the shore, it was packed with boats, something we hadn't seen the day before. I told them and we began to worry. Some time while I was offline one of my friends tells me he was killed by a group of people.

That is not the worse part however. He went on to say they claimed our houses and everything we had. This hit a nerve for us all as we had no way to stop this. We tried to gain as much LP as possible to get Yeomanry. And now I need to ask you lot. Is this right? Does it happen often?

We're planning on starting new characters and getting the HS of a nice town we can stay in until we have enough LP to fend for ourselves.

this is pretty normal. I learned quickly to earn enough lp to get yeomanry first before I start building anything, for this exact reason. What I don't understand is why would group of people claim some noobs settlement that probably didnt even have anything of value in there ... must have been super bored.

The most valuable thing we had was probably a fishing rod or rabbit fur.

This WAS normal, at the beginning of the world, but who the fuck want's a tiny newbie camp now days? Those people are just dicks, and moving into a town is the best option.

You forget how complicated this game can be to new people. Usually I catch on to things quickly. But this, is by far the most hardest game to learn that I've played. And I've played a lot of games.

Go play Dwarf Fortress, and then when you play HnH again, it will be incerdibly simple compared to it. Also, a word of advice: Always keep the wiki open on another tab. You don't know what something is? Look there.

I've played very little of DF. Never get very far though.

We joined this game so we could play "Dwarves" and live in a mountain. So far, no mountain.

Mountains are the large gray areas with tons of cliffs.
