Murder on the River

Postby Ikpeip » Sat Aug 27, 2011 9:53 pm

I am a relatively new player (about a week and a half playing), and I'm seeking armed men to assist with Polish raiders from the village Veluca who have previously ransacked my camp, and this morning killed my friend and campmate unprovoked. The details follow.

About 4-5 days ago, my friend and I had just set up our Palisade. Not having access to metal and unable to copy our gate key, we took to leaving the gate open when we left if the other player wasn't online, and leaving the key in a box inside our house. This was, of course, a very big and foolish mistake. Two raiders from Veluca got into the camp and took the key, and then forced us to forage up enough roots to make 20 rope before they'd give it back. It turns out they made a copy of the key.

Two nights ago, using the copy of the key they had made, they came inside our camp while we were offline, killed the cow I had tamed, and stole everything (even a cupboard of q4 bread dough). Realizing our gates were compromised, we build a second Palisade gate behind our first, which we finished (just in time) this morning.

Yesterday I travelled to Veluca to try and figure out if there was a way I could convince them to leave me alone. On sight, they started swearing profusely (the only English they seem to know), and chased me down the river in a boat for about 15 minutes, until I was able to get enough distance to land on shore, grab my boat, and hearth.

This morning, about half an hour after the new gate was completed, the original thief to show up and steal our key turned up with 4 others. When they saw we had a new gate and they couldn't get inside, they began shooting at us through the walls. I was able to get inside my house, but my friend was killed. For about 90 minutes thereafter, they camped outside the walls, and killed him whenever he made a new character.

We've never taken any hostile action against these fellows, and I expect they will continue to show up every couple of days to try and murder us. I'm looking for any assistance available to remove the threat of Veluca. The camp has a wooden Palisade wall around it, and it seems they have at least 5 men armed with swords. I am willing to pay a bountry if needed (I'm pre-metal, but anything I can get is fair game). Screenshots of the aftermath of the attack, including scents, follow.

leaving the gate open and key inside your house are cardinal sins in Haven, the dumbest of dumb moves, so i doubt that help will be forthcoming.....

I admitted in the original post that leaving the gate open with the key inside was an error on our part. We had been playing all of 3-4 days and didn't realize the severity of the situation. The gate situation, as mentioned, has been resolved by adding on a second gate they do not have the key to. That has nothing to do with the continued assault and murders. Does one mistake made in our early days condemn us indefinitely?

Leave the area. Grab a boat and valuables and leave. The chances of them quitting even after a raid on their part is very slim. Travel a few SuperGrids away. You have discovered the wild Polish Troll.
My son, walk not in the way unarmed; because thou knowest not when thy enemy shall come upon thee.

I know you admited it was a dumb move but why did you have the key in the crate AND the door open? Were you and your villagers too lazy to close the door before they logged out? If it was in a container on the inside, then all you had to do was just close the door and log out and it still would have been safer than what you have done. What some people do confuses me to no end.
